"Guantanamera is a socialist comedy in the vein of the landmark Czech films of the '60s; much of its humor springs from the frustrations of life in a country where nothing ever seems to work quite the way it should...  Guantanamera is a gently whimsical film, acted with simplicity and grace...
It is distinctly old-fashioned and sometimes baldly sentimental [with] a genuine, disarming sweetness that makes it hard to resist."       - Mary Brennan, www.film.com

The program for this benefit event will include:

- A brief presentation and performance by the World Harmony Chorus.

- A screening of a short documentary by The Learning Community, a Los Altos High School class that traveled in Cuba in February, 2000.

- A screening of the 1995 film "Guantanamera", a romantic comedy co-directed by Juan Carlos Tabio and the late Tomas Gutierrez Alea, the team that directed the enormously popular "Strawberry and Chocolate".  The film depicts a road trip from Guantanamo (just east of Santiago) to Havana, covering essentially the same route that the World Harmony Chorus will be making in the opposite direction, this November.
